1894 Photoret Pocket Watch Camera In Original Slide-Top Wood Box

With Original Instruction Manual.

The Photoret was made by the Magic Introduction Company and was the first of several “pocket watch” cameras sold into the burgeoning consumer camera market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Unlike the mass-produced Ticka & Expo watch cameras that succeeded it, in Europe and the USA respectively, the Photoret was hand-assembled in limited numbers and built to a standard rather than a price. Its case was finished in highly polished nickel, and its sides were beautifully tapered.

This example is in excellent condition, close to mint, and it comes with its original slide-top wood box (the English language export version), as well as its original instruction manual (also the English language version). There’s a French bi-fold sales sheet that’s included as well.

The shutter is sticky at times, but it still works. The camera’s nickel case is pristine, with no dings or dents, and beautifully etched lettering.

Camera measures approximately 2 1/4″ diameter and weighs just 3 ounces. Wood box measures approximately 5″ x 3″ x 1″.

A wonderful outfit.
