1898 Columbia BXP Nickeled & Polished Cylinder Phonograph On Sears Pattern Fancy Base
Beautiful Columbia BXP cylinder phonograph manufactured ca. 1898. The phonograph is mounted on a “Sears” style base made by Paul Baker and comes with an original hanging horn (also nickel-plated) and a replica table crane.
A breathtakingly beautiful cylinder phonograph by any measure, it runs well, it sounds good, and it will arrive ready to play and enjoy.
Advertised in Columbia’s November 1898 product catalog as a “Nickeled & Polished Eagle,” the BXP sold for a $3 premium over the standard model.
As you can see, the phonograph features extensive nickel plating (even the winding key, reproducer shell and governor weights were nickel-plated), all of it polished to a mirror-like gleam.
