1898 Edison Spring Motor Phonograph
No Sales Tax If Shipped Outside North Carolina.
All-original Edison Spring Motor Phonograph in a pristine green oak cabinet.
Machine and cabinet are in excellent condition, and the phonograph’s bedplate is close to mint, with beautiful original enamel and nearly perfect original gold decorations. Cabinet finish is original and smooth to the touch, and the interior of the lid retains its original green tint. Original swarf box slides easily in and out of the base. Lid’s exterior is clean and excellent, with single small ding on the backside, but otherwise no veneer problems — remarkable for an enclosure this large.
The massive spring motor is in excellent condition, with ample torque. The governor assembly is working properly, and the pitch doesn’t waver as a cylinder plays through. All of the gearing beneath the bedplate is clean, and the phonograph plays multiple cylinders with a single winding. The Automatic reproducer– rebuilt with a copper diaphragm — is in excellent condition. Original japanned crank is likewise in excellent condition.
Will be partially dis-assembled and shipped in 3 double-boxed packages for safe transit. Some familiarity with a cylinder phonograph mechanism and topworks required for re-assembly.
