Tested & Working, With Good Tipped Tubes
The short-lived Entertain-A-Phone Model 2 was manufactured in the early 1920’s by the New York Coil Co. and distributed by a mythical entity identified on the round metal panel tag as Pioneer Wireless Mfgrs. It’s an uncommon, wonderful-looking set, with strange design features and a chassis that’s both artful and ingenious.
Overall condition is excellent, and the radio is still working. There are repaired chips in the lower corners of the panel (the bakelite is very thin and susceptible to chipping), but the radio is otherwise extremely clean, and it’s original throughout.
There are no missing or replaced binding post nuts, the cabinet hardware is correct; the lid card is clean and legible; the chassis components are pristine, including the AF transformers, both of which both test good. The paper labels inside the cabinet indicating battery connection are clean and complete; there is no rust or corrosion anywhere; the dials and knob are original and in excellent condition; the sheet metal pointers are original and in excellent condition, etc.
The radio has been tested, and it still works when connected to a regulated DC power supply, a longwire outdoor antenna and a vintage horn loudspeaker. Both amp stages are working properly, and the set plays loud. The radio comes with a good UV-200 1 amp detector tube, and 2 good UV-201a amplifier tubes.
