In many parts of the world, electricity was still considered a “dark art” as late as the 17th century, but by the time Michael Faraday invented the generator in 1837, the cat was out of the bag and rapid advances were being made in all areas of electrical technology. By the late 19th century, there was literally a pile-on of invention: Edison,Tesla, Westinghouse, Marconi, Murray, so much was happening so fast you needed a computer (another electrical invention you may have heard about) to keep track of it all.
