1888 William Hume “Nimrod” Photographic Enlarger
$500.00
Ships Worldwide.
Early iteration — perhaps the earliest — of the Cantilever Patent enlarger manufactured on Lothian St. in Edinburgh by scientific instrument maker William Hume.
Features non-tapered bellows, a massive 5″ condenser (the element alone weighs three pounds), a quarter plate glass negative holder, a leather-barrel lens cover with red safe-glass, 4 Waterhouse aperture stops in their original leather case, and a lamp house platform that can be set up for use with oil, gas, lime or arcing rod illumination sources.
Condition overall is excellent, with original hardware throughout, and signs of wear and use consistent with age and authenticity.
Hume enlarging instruments are often confused with magic lanterns, but they were made expressly for darkroom purposes.
Base measures approximately 16″ x 9″. Bellows extend to approximately 8″.
