C. 1908 Carborundum Radio Detector * Long Distance Wireless Instrument Co. * Boston

Large, early, well-built carborundum radio detector made by the Long Distance Wireless Instrument Co. of Boston, a manufacturer of wireless gear that advertised in specialist magazines between 1908 and 1910.

The instrument comes from an uncatalogued collection of early radio items dating back to 1906, and it is perhaps the only example known.

Mounted on a stone base, it stands more than 5″ high and weighs 1 1/4 lb.
