Early, elegant sliding box camera with a Petzval lens. The camera is unsigned, as is the lens, but both date to the mid 19th century.
Original finish, original ground glass focusing plate.
Focuses easily and accurately, with a clean, crisp image visible on the ground glass
Both the body and the sliding box are in good condition, and the box slides easily along the rail. There are several extra mounting holes behind the flange, as well as some horizontal curing cracks/hairlines in the lensboard.
Secure tongue-in-groove joints everywhere.
Lens is in nice shape, with no dings in the barrel, no fungus, no apparent issues. Front element advances and retracts easily.
The camera measures approximately 7″ wide x 7″ high x 10″ deep (without the lens mounted on the flange). Image size is 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″.
