1864 Dallmeyer Sliding Box Wet Plate Camera With Dallmeyer 2B Lens
Beautiful Dallmeyer 5×5 sliding box camera. The lens dates the camera to 1864, and the camera’s condition is exceptional.
Original lacquer on the brass fittings and clocked screws, original shellac on the body and sliding box (woods appear to be walnut and teak). Dovetailed joints are screwed, edges on the front standard are rounded. Ground glass is original and undamaged.
Lens barrel has no dings, no dents, no repairs; lens elements are clear, lens rack advances easily. Lens has a removable insert in the front which allows it to be converted into a landscape lens by removing the rear element and moving the front element to the back. The inserted stop at the front would allow it to focus as a single lens achromatic.
Fully extended, the camera measures approximately 13″ x 7 1/2″ x 7″. Lens is 6″ long with a 3 1/2″ diameter hood.
Build quality of everything is second to none. A very special camera.
