The world’s first home theatre outfit, the Home Kinetoscope was among Edison’s greatest commercial failures. It sold for a king’s ransom when new, and it used proprietary 22 millimeter “safety film” (less likely to catch fire and divided into 3 parallel tracks — each 6mm wide) that an operator would spool through first in one direction, then back in the other direction, and then a third time in the same direction as the first.

This example is complete, correct and operable, and it comes with its original metal case and a very collectible rental version of an Edison Home Kinetoscope 22MM movie entitled Betty’s Buttons.

As for the projector, it’s a very nice example, and it’s original throughout (although the strap on the case is a replacement). The mechanism is working properly, and the shutter runs smoothly as the crank is turned. Both reels are original, and both are correct, with threads on opposite sides. Crank is likewise original, as is the knurled thumbnut that secures it to the mechanism.

Everything included with the set can be neatly housed inside of the case.
