Large, beautiful, hard-to-find Marconi MST-2 tuner and its matching MSA-5 detector amplifier. This is the earliest and most uncommon iteration of the pair, with exposed tubes on the panel of the MSA-5. Both components were manufactured in Montreal in the early 1920’s, and together they comprise one of the most elegant antique tuner/DA combinations you’re likely to encounter anywhere.
Condition of both the the tuner and the DA is excellent throughout, as you can see in the photographs. The bakelite panels are clean and undamaged, with reflective surfaces. Nickel-plating on the panel hardware is original, and it’s in excellent condition, exhibiting some tarnish but no rust or corrosion. Switches, levers and knobs and binding post assemblies are clean and original. Panel controls are working properly.
Both chassis are in excellent condition. Original tubes sockets, with no damage. Both original audio transformers test good. Good tipped UV-200 detector tube and 2 good tipped UV-01A amplifier tubes.
Rosewood cabinets are in excellent condition, with the original finish still intact. There are ancient age-related curing cracks on the backs of both components and scattered minor marks on all cabinet surfaces consistent with age and authenticity. Metal Marconi tags on the tops of the lids have been replicated using the original tag from the tuner as a basis for the replication (the original tag is included and pictured in the last photo).
The tuner measures approximately 18″ wide by 13″ high by 11″ deep. The DA measures approximately 12″ wide by 13″ high by 11″ deep.
Offered for historical purposes only, with no assurances stated or implied that it’s still suitable for broadcast reception.
