C. 1820 Traveling Medicine Cabinet With Apothecary Balance & Hidden Compartment For Poisons
Small (just 10″ x 9″ x 7″), exquisite, early 19th century medicine cabinet with two drawers, five shelves, a hidden compartment in back for poisons (or valuables), and a balance with dram and grain weights.
Construction is mahogany, with a brass handle and bone drawer pulls. The latch for the rear poison compartment (hidden behind a sliding panel) is located in the upper right front corner of the interior.
Original finish, with minimal wear and very little crazing. Some of the bottles are period correct, others are more recent.
Original green felt lining is in good condition, with normal wear but no insect damage or significant deterioration.
Brass key and lock, both original and both working.
