C. 1870 Amber Glass Leyden Jar

Excellent 19th century hand blown Leyden Jar, an early capacitor that stored a high voltage charge between two electrical conductors separated by glass. These jars were used in laboratories with influence machines and electrostatic generators (Wimshurst, Toepler Holtz, et al).

Measures approximately 10″ high, with foil intact both inside and out. No damage to the glass, no shrinkage cracks in the wood top, beautiful amber shellac tint, 1/2″ diameter discharge sphere on the top of the rod. Brass chain appears to be original and extends to the the interior foil floor of the jar.
