Large and quite beautiful Slater & Oakes medical induction coil. This outfit dates to the mid-1800’s and was designed for electro-shock therapy at a time when electricity was believed to possess healing properties more potent than drugs, herbs or ointments. The coil comes with its original cabinet (lock & key are working).
Condition overall is excellent. Clean coil, clean fittings, clean electrodes.
The cabinet finish is original, with marks and wear consistent with age and authenticity. The cabinet has a storage compartment behind the coil for bichromate batteries.
The coil is good, and the interrupter buzzes audibly when the apparatus is connected to 6 volts DC.
