Clean, complete Eldridge R. Johnson Type M “Victor” phonograph with its original Eldridge Johnson Concert Sound Box and its original brass and black Johnson horn. The Type M was Eldridge Johnson’s flagship phonograph in 1900, selling for almost 3 times the price of the Type A.
Condition is very good, and the phonograph has no replica parts.
The cabinet is pristine, with a smooth, original finish and only scattered minor marks consistent with age and authenticity. Turned wood “chess piece” corners are all intact and undamaged. The nickel-plated fittings are clean, with scattered areas of surface oxidation. The ID plate is legible, the brake is working properly, the original record clamp threads easily onto the spindle. The original leather horn elbow is worn, but it still holds the horn securely in place. The motor and governor are working properly, the original Johnson reproducer is in good shape, as you can see in the photos. The machine runs well, although the turntable has a slight wobble.
The original brass and black Johnson horn is likewise in good condition, with glossy original paint and some scattered marks and paint deterioration consistent with age and authenticity, but no dents or other damage. The bell has been professionally polished.
A really nice example of a Johnson Type M. Needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately.
