1901 Pathe Gaulois Cylinder Phonograph With Fluted Crystal Horn

Robin’s egg blue Pathe Gaulois cylinder phonograph with a pale pink crystal horn.

The Gaulois was France’s answer to the Edison “Drip Pan” Gem, but — as you would expect from the French — it was infinitely more refined and elegant.

Condition is excellent. There are scattered minor marks in the case’s blue enamel finish, but nothing significant or distracting. The enamel is original throughout, with no touch-ups or restoration.

The case decorations are likewise original, and they’re still prominent.

Carriage is in excellent condition, with no damage and no repairs. Carriage lift assembly is also working properly, as is the reproducer adjustment screw. The phonograph tracks correctly.

Good mainspring, and the governor is working properly. The machine runs well and sounds good, particularly for such an early phonograph.

The drip pan is in good condition, with normal oxidation, but no dents or damage. Original retaining screws secure the drip pan to the case. The machine’s serial number is blind-stamped into the pan.

The winding key is original and in excellent condition. The reproducer is original, and it has a good ball stylus. The reproducer comes with its original box.

The aftermarket crystal horn came from Paul Baker. It’s fluted and gorgeous and all but indistinguishable from an original 120+ year old crystal horn.
