1922 Boston Scale & Machine Co. Type 105 Tuner And Matching Type 100 Detector Amplifier
$2,500.00
Tested & Working With Good 1 Amp Tubes
Uncommon and impeccably built tuner and matching DA manufactured by the Boston Scale & Machine Co. ca. 1921. These were the company’s only radio products, and they were in production for just a few months.
Construction quality is second to none — reminiscent of John Firth wireless instruments dating to the same period; the inlaid rosewood cabinets are themselves as beautifully made as the components they house.
Condition is excellent. Both the tuner and the DA are original throughout, with no restoration, no repairs, no issues. Both AF transformers are good, as are the brass base, tipped 1 amp tubes with which it’s supplied. Clean original finish on the cabinets, with some wear to the inlays consistent with age and authenticity.
The panels are clean and undamaged, the rheostats are good; coils are clean and continuous; all tuning controls are working properly. The filament switch is oxidized internally and passing current only intermittently. The radio was tested by the placing a small copper wire across the switch, jumping it.
The pair still work, tuning in near and distant stations with reasonably good sensitivity and selectivity. The tubes supplied are the tubes with which it was tested.
A very rare, exquisitely crafted New England double-decker receiving set in pristine, working condition.
