The short-lived Entertain-A-Phone Model 2 was manufactured in the early 1920’s by a mythical subsidiary of the New York Coil Company called Pioneer Wireless Manufacturers. It’s an uncommon, wonderful-looking set, with strange design features, an early wood tuner, and a chassis that’s both artful and ingenious.

Overall condition of this example is very good, and the radio is complete, correct and clean throughout.

There are no missing or replaced parts, the cabinet hardware is undamaged; the instruction card is clean and legible; the chassis components are original, including the AF transformers. The paper labels inside the cabinet indicating battery connections are clean and complete; the dials and knob are original and in excellent condition; the sheet metal pointers are original and in excellent condition, etc.

Perhaps the most unusual aspect of this unusual radio are the cylindrical risers in the lid. Ostensibly, they were designed to allow headroom for the tip top tubes, but the tubes don’t come anywhere near touching the lid, so their inclusion is as mysterious as it is unnecessary, something that must have dawned on the designers themselves at some point because the second version of the radio, released just a few weeks after this one, did not include them.

The radio comes with 3 brass base, tipped 1 amp “display” tubes that that have open filaments.
