1923 RCA Westinghouse Radiola Freight Train

Very scarce 1923 RCA Westinghouse 4-piece combination receiver known colloquially as the Radiola Freight Train. The receiver comprises the Type RT Antenna Coupler, the Type RA Receiving Tuner, the Type AR Radio Frequency Amplifier, and the Type DA Detector Amplifier.

Also included is the original Wireless Specialty Apparatus Co. Type 363386 fixed condenser coupling the RA’s Fil.Gnd and Antenna posts (this condenser was supplied for the RA by RCA when the AR and RT units were purchased together). The RA’s original factory inspection tag hangs from the tuning dial, and the RT’s original manual — which explains the various ways that the AR and RT can be configured with different Westinghouse components — is included as well.

What you’re looking at, in other words (at least as far as early Westinghouse radio components go) is The Full Monty. Seldom seen, seldom offered, seldom found in even the most complete collections of early 20’s radios.

All components are in excellent original condition, and all six tipped tubes test okay. The two 1/4 amp 201a tubes test good for emissions; the four 1 amp 201 tubes test good for filament continuity. The 3 RF transformers in the AR test good for continuity in all windings. The two AF transformers in the DA do not.

There’s a tiny nick in the lower left outside corner of the RT’s panel, but the panels of all components are otherwise pristine. Chassis are likewise pristine. All four cabinets are clean, correct and original, and their original finish is still intact, with only scattered minor marks consistent with age and authenticity.

All binding post nuts are correct and original, and none of them are missing.
