Very uncommon 1923 Western Electric multi-stage AF amplifier for early crystal set and tube radio applications. The amplifier is compact but effective, as you can see/hear in the video link below, where it’s been paired with an early Federal crystal radio.

Sold primarily in the United Kingdom as an accessory for BBC-licensed broadcast receivers, the amp uses a pair of Western Electric 216-A tennis ball tubes in conjunction with 3 Western Electric AF transformers (1 input transformer, 2 output transformers) to squeeze a tremendous amount of volume out of any working 20’s crystal/battery radio that you care to use as an input source.

Condition is excellent throughout, and the amp is clean, correct and original throughout. Moreover, the working, good emissions 216-A tubes that you see in the video are the ones that are included with the amplifier.

The cabinet finish is original, the binding post nuts are original, the Western Electric tag is original, all fittings and hinges are original, the BBC decal is original, the schematic diagram on the underside of the lid is original, the peephole screens for the tubes are original, all three Western Electric transformers have good windings, and both Western Electric tennis ball tubes have good emissions. There is no damage to the C battery compartment, no corrosion on the C battery terminals.

A beautiful, working, very scarce example of early vacuum tube amplifying technology.
