Emile Berliner invented the disc phonograph, Eldridge Johnson popularized it, but nobody made more beautiful disc phonographs than Frank Seaman, whose early front mount Zon-O-Phones, designed by Seaman and Louis Valiquet, were unmatched in terms of elegance and engineering.
This Model A Zon-O-Phone is original throughout, very clean, and in outstanding condition.
Cabinet finish is smooth; wood and trim are outstanding, with no issues; beveled glass panels are flawlessly cut and undamaged; nickel is excellent all around (some plating wear on the reproducer, but otherwise clean and original throughout); celluloid tag is complete and original, with no warping, no cracks; mechanism is spotless, with no pitting, no oxidation, no issues; original purple felt still lines the bottom interior of the cabinet.
Original 16″ Zon-O-Phone all-brass horn has no dents, no damage, and the elbow is still soldered securely to the horn’s barrel. Original lacquer; beautiful caramel patina.
The phonograph runs very well and has no trouble making it through a record.
A very fine example of an uncommon and highly collectible phonograph.
