Introduced in 1922, the Crystal A was the first “Marconiphone” branded radio manufactured by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Co. of London. It marked the company’s entry into the home radio market, which was just beginning to take flight in Europe at that time as it had in the United States the year before.

As crystal radios go, the Marconi A is a serious affair. With its lid closed, the radio measures approximately 14″ x 7″ x 5″ and is considerably larger, more sophisticated, and more substantial than comparable sets from that era.

Condition is excellent, and the radio still works when properly configured with the appropriate Antenna and Earth connections. The radio’s original leatherette covering is intact, with only minimal signs of wear. The radio’s panel is clean and undamaged, with no issues, and both original detectors are in excellent condition, as is the original plug-in range block. The range block securing clips (in the lid) are original and undamaged, and the lid card is original and in good condition. Also present is the headphone connecting block.

All of the radio’s small hardware is original and in excellent condition.

Includes a nice BBC licensed GEC headset whose metal tips are still securely planted in the connecting wire.
