1923 Atwater Kent 4340 Breadboard Radio With Good Gold Super Airline Tubes * 1st Model 10

$2,250.00

Tested & Working.

The first of many iterations of Atwater Kent’s popular Model 10 radio, the 4340 was in production for only a few months. The set was tuned with three variable capacitors housed in green metal “cans,” but like the inductively tuned breadboard radios that preceded it, the 4340 did not have an integral wiring harness. Battery connections were made directly to a series of binding posts located on the back of the board.

Condition of this example is excellent, and the radio is original throughout.

Original green paint on the condenser cans and TA island is clean, with minimal deterioration. The chocolate brown bakelite is likewise clean, with prominent original engraving on the dials and no chips, no cracks, no issues anywhere. The potting tar inside the TA island is original and undisturbed, as are both of the AF transformers. Both transformers have good windings.

The board retains its original finish. All of the wiring under the board is original, as are the staples and the feet. All five Super Airline gold glass tubes are good.

When powered up with an appropriate DC power supply and connected to a longwire outdoor antenna and a high impedance vintage horn loudspeaker, the radio still works.
