Based in Long Island City, NY, the Moon Radio Corporation reveled in its promotional literature about how it had created a radio that was like no other — a self-contained, thoughtfully engineered set with proprietary parts and ingenious “Saterlee Antennaless” coils that — the company boasted — could receive stations from thousands of miles away with no antenna at all.

As it turned out, that was a bit of a stretch, but Moon’s C-2 and C-2A radios were truly unique — particularly their molded bakelite coils — and the company’s odd looking receivers — among the most collectible sets from the 20’s today — were in fact very good performers.

Condition of this C-2A is excellent. The radio is original throughout, with good AF transformers, continuous rheostats and coils, good brass base tipped tubes, clean original wires for the internal B batteries, etc. The cabinet finish is original, and the cabinet itself is in good shape, save for a single chip of wood missing from the rear interior that may have been there from the time it was manufactured.

Bakelite panel is in excellent condition, with crisp original engraving, and the bakelite chassis deck is complete, with no damage.

The radio has been tested, and it’s still working. Output is loud, sensitivity is good. There’s a 1/2″ long wire bridging the two sides of the filament switch, which is oxidized, but the radio is otherwise unmodified and unrestored.

Requires an appropriated DC power supply and a vintage 20’s horn speaker or pair of high impedance headphones.

Comes with an original brochure and a copy of Radio Digest, from March 1924, in which the radio is featured and discussed at length.
