Remarkable early electro-shock device sold by Emilio Balzarini in Milan, Italy. Undated, but most likely manufactured in the late 19th century.
The induction coil is powered by a 30-cell battery, whose rods can be raised from — and lowered into — the solution by loosening a pair of large turnscrews located on either side of the cabinet.
An exposed potentiometer allows the operator to select the number of battery cells that are to be accessed, thereby controlling the current.
With multiple levers, switches, knobs and contacts, not to mention a large milliampere meter located prominently on the panel, this electric machine was clearly built to impress.
Condition is very good throughout, with glistening instrumentation and a very nice, complete battery array. Cabinet exhibits normal wear consistent with age and authenticity.
Includes both original handles/electrodes and their original red and green connecting wires.
With its lid lowered, measures approximately 14″ x 9″ x 8″.
